The Agency for Peacebuilding (AP) is excited to launch a new call for articles.
Selected articles will be posted on our website (www.peaceagency.org), which caters to an international audience of peacebuilding and international development specialists. Selected articles will also circulate through our newsletter and social media (Twitter and LinkedIn).
If you are interested in submitting an article, please read the following guidelines:
AUTHORS
We are interested in gathering first-hand insights from:
- Representatives from civil society organizations (large, small or grassroots), institutions (local, national or international) or informal groups
- Practitioners, researchers or evaluators
- Youth activists or advocates
SUBJECTS
The Call for Articles covers the following topics:
- Environmental crises and peacebuilding: articles under this topic could focus on the risks that climate change poses to international peace and security as well as local peacebuilding interventions. Approaches, instruments and tools to reduce and mitigate structural governance vulnerabilities compounded by climate change in conflict areas and peacebuilding interventions.
- Women’s role in peace and security: despite the achievements in policy development around the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda and the recognition that there is a lack of implementation in carrying out new and already existing policies, there still remains a gap between the words that are committed and the actions that are taken. Articles under this topic could focus on obstacles, emerging trends, successful stories and challenges to promoting women’s role in peace and security.
- Youth, Peace and Security: there is a growing recognition of young people’s essential role in peace and security. It is encouraging to see many instances in which Governments, United Nations entities, civil society actors and others are stepping up to implement resolution 2250 (2015). Core challenges remain, however, including structural barriers limiting the participation of young people and their capacity to influence decision-making; violations of their human rights; and insufficient investment in facilitating their inclusion and empowerment. Articles under this topic could focus on experiences, practices and proposals from the field.
- The state of European Peacebuilding: articles under this topic could focus on the role of the EU in the consolidation of peace and stability, and in the promotion of long-term development; and main challenges, possible reforms, best tools, policies and practices at the level of the EU or individual members states.
LANGUAGE
Articles shall be written either in English or Italian. The author may send an original image to illustrate the piece if she/he likes.
FORMAT
Articles shall be below 800 words and be written in an accessible way. While articles will, in fact, cater to peacebuilding specialists and practitioners, it is important that they also remain readable by people outside the sector.
There is no specific format that the articles ought to follow. This said, it will be important that authors make their arguments or points as clearly as possible. Authors should avoid overly technical or academic formats and references should be included in the form of hyperlinks.
Authors should include the following information:
- Name and contact information, Twitter or LinkedIn account if you would like to be tagged when we publish your articles in our social networks;
- A brief bio to be published with the article, and a CV; and
- Description (or short abstract – 5 lines maximum).
DEADLINE
The deadline for submitting the articles is March 8, 2021. Selected articles will be published on our website starting by the end of March.
The Agency for Peacebuilding is responsible for the selection process, which will assess submitted ideas based on relevance, content and quality.
