Digital Technologies and Peace
Policy Paper
Launched at the 2024 Bologna Peacebuilding Forum,
this policy paper looks at how to design and use digital technologies for gender inclusive peace mediation.
Digital technologies have always played a key role in global security and warfare, but also have the potential to contribute to more equitable, effective and thus sustainable peace.
Therefore, they can support the design of a more inclusive peace mediation, ensuring a better engagement of women and marginalised identities.
Against this backdrop, this report offers recommendations in enhancing the inclusion, especially of women, in peace mediation through the use of digital technologies.
The report offers recommendations such as:
- Overcoming resistance to technology
- Raising awareness among donors
- Increasing knowledge and awareness of PeaceTech
The report has been published as part of the project “Digital Technologies for Peace and Mediation” funded by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and implemented by AP in collaboration with Peace Research Institute of Oslo (PRIO) and its “Gender, Peace and Security” centre as advisors of the project.
